The Walther PPK really became the stuff of legends after appearing as the handgun that James Bond carried on the Big Screen.

In the original Ian Flemming novels, the James Bond character carried a Berretta .25 caliber weapon. However, the Walther PPK became the handgun of choice for the movies. The pistol that Bond preferred was the 7.65 caliber, 32 auto, which is not as popular in American where the .380 (short 9mm) is the most prevalent and widely chosen for the added stopping power.

Most hard core James Bond fans remember that the PPK was originally presented to Agent 007 (played then by legendary screen actor Sean Connery) in the movie Dr. No. The major who offered Bond the Walther PPK was later developed into the character “Q” as the movies continued to evolve.

In the original novels written by Flemming, taking place in the 1930’s, Bond carried a Beretta .25 concealed weapon with a larger .45 stashed in his Bentley when the occasion arrived for more firepower. As the novels became film small details began to morph and the Bentley was updated to an Aston, the Beretta to a PPK and the .45 disappeared in its entirety.

This Walther PPK was used in all the James Bond movies up until Tomorrow Never Dies when the Walther P99 was introduced as primary concealed weapon carry. Perhaps the newer Walther PPS will supplant the Walther P99 in the upcoming films as it is a bit more compact and more modern in design than tha Walther PPK.
